Flying Saucer

The Flying Saucer collection is inspired by the June 24, 1947 sighting that helped launch the modern flying saucer era. Pilot Kenneth Arnold departed Chehalis, Washington, and while flying near Mount Rainier reported seeing nine mysterious objects moving across the Cascades. Arnold described their movement as being like saucers skipping across water—a description that helped give rise to the term “flying saucer.”
